Dean Bowen's idiosyncratic paintings, prints and sculptures combine technical mastery with a fundamental directness and simplicity. His artwork combines the use of humour and gentle irony with technical proficiency to explore the world around him. His flattening of perspective brings to mind the approach of certain indigenous artists who, like Bowen, employ a naive style to observe and map everyday events and memories. Bowen's delightful spontaneity is achieved through the skilful balancing of creative inventiveness with a rigorous application of process and technique. Initially trained in printmaking, Bowen has won numerous national and international awards, including the Osaka Print Triennial and the Sapporo International Print Biennial awards in Japan.
Bowen has gained both a Master of Arts (Printmaking) and a PhD (Printmaking) from Monash University. He has exhibited widely - in more than 40 solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions - in Australia, Japan, Switzerland, France and England.

His prints and sculptures appear in public and private collections internationally, including the Fukuoka Museum of Art in Japan, Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, the National Gallery of Australia and Parliament House in Canberra, and in numerous Australian regional, university and corporate collections.
