Directed by Catherine Hunter, the documentary explores in-depth the artist’s journey and evolving creative practice. The film also documents the most recent shift in Quilty’s art which is a growing interest in our national history and the dark corners of our past.

05.11.19 Victoria Reichelt in the R & M McGivern Prize
Congratulations to Victoria Reichelt who has been selected as a finalist in the 2019 R & M McGivern Prize with her work, Plastic Horror 2. Held every three years, the R & M McGivern Prize is a painting award that invites artists to respond to a theme. The 2019 theme is ‘Anthropocene’, which describes an era proposed by scientists that dates from the commencement of significant human impact on the Earth’s geology and ecosystems. As described by the artist, Reichelt’s Plastic Horror 2 features “..a mountain of plastic cups, the work highlights the omnipresence of these destructive objects, which seem to multiply before our eyes.”
The winner of the $25,000 R & M McGivern Prize will be announced 28 November.

05.11.19 William Mackinnon on the cover of Good Weekend
William Mackinnon’s work has been featured on the cover of Good Weekend Magazine in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. Recently featured at Sydney Contemporary Art Fair, William Mackinnon’s From the acorn to the oak was selected as the cover image of the annual ’52 Weekends Away’ edition. The painting was inspired by a visit William and his partner made to Sydney’s Rose Seidler House, designed by the late architect Harry Seidler for his mother.
As described by the artist, “The painting sits somewhere between nostalgia for a country we no longer call home and the fantasy of a place we might one day design and live in.”

16.10.19 Robert Malherbe in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize
Congratulations to Robert Malherbe who has been announced as a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize 2019 with his work Tiatia. Malherbe’s entry in the prize is a portrait of fellow artist Angela Tiatia.
Facilitated by the Moran Arts Foundation, the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize is one of Australia’s most prestigious prizes with a major award of $150,000. The winner will be announced 30 October.

28.09.19 Robert Malherbe in the Paddington Art Prize
Congratulations to Robert Malherbe who has been announced as a finalist in the 2019 Paddington Art Prize with his work Across the Lake. Malherbe has had a busy year presenting his work in multiple prizes including the 2019 Wynne Prize as well his solo show, Painted from Life, at Jan Murphy Gallery.
The Paddington Art Prize is a national acquisitive art prize for painting inspired by the Australian landscape. The winner of the $30,000 award will be announced at the opening night on 17 October.
