Work by Betty Muffler can be seen at the 14th Gwangju Biennale in South Korea. The title of this year’s Biennale is ‘Soft and weak like water’, taking inspiration from a chapter of the Dao De Jing which speaks to water’s capacity to embrace contradictions and paradoxes.
Muffler grew up at the Ernabella Mission in the APY Lands and is a renowned ‘Ngangkari’ (traditional healer), a practice she learned from her paternal aunts. Her recurring depiction of healing sites in connection to country is the subject of her works entitled Ngangkari Ngura (Healing Country).
