Celia Gullett ‘Shaping Colour’ exhibition has opened at South East Centre for Contemporary Art (SECCA).
“Celia Gullett has developed and honed her own, quietly distinct, form of minimal colourist painting.
Working in a concurrent rather than sequential pattern, her experiments in surface, scale, light and form are unified by a subtly potent palette. In their most reduced and pared back compositions her works assume the haptic magnetism of textiles or archaic plasters. In more complex constructions they reveal an intricate geometric imagination.
Painted in a studio that is like a well of light, their congregation in this concentrated survey illuminates a meeting between deft process and erudite colour.”
