Richard Lewer at Museum of Sydney and Tweed Regional Gallery

Work by Richard Lewer is currently featured in ‘Just not Australian’ at Museum of Sydney and ‘One foot on the ground, one foot in the water’ at Tweed Regional Gallery.

‘Just not Australian’ presents an exploration of race, place and belonging, seeking to interrogate the representation of Australian national identity. Featured in this show is Richard’s 2019 map work, ‘No matter how hard I try I can’t escape my past’.

On display at Tweed Regional Gallery is Richard Lewer’s 2020 work, ‘Richard Lewer as a bald man’. Presenting works from varied forms of media, ‘One foot on the ground, one foot in the water’ explores mortality as a state of transition, presenting processes of art making as a means of facing death collectively and individually.
